New Study Links Hyperfocus and Internet Addiction in Individuals with ADHD Traits




A new scientific report highlights a surprising connection between hyperfocus  an intense state of concentration often seen in individuals with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) traits and internet addiction. Researchers found that while ADHD is commonly associated with distractibility, some individuals experience the opposite: long periods of intense focus on specific online activities such as gaming, social media, or streaming.

The study suggests that this hyperfocus tendency may increase the risk of excessive internet use, blurring the line between productive engagement and compulsive behavior.  Participants with strong ADHD traits showed higher scores in internet addiction scales, indicating that hyperfocus could act as both a coping mechanism and a risk factor for digital overuse.

Experts believe that understanding this link is crucial for developing better mental health interventions, especially in today’s digital age. The findings call for greater awareness about how technology interacts with neurodiverse attention patterns.
